Farnsfield Preservation Group (FPG)
The Farnsfield Preservation Group (FPG)was established in August 2026 to coordinate residents’ concerns about the proposed 140-home development on Southwell Road.
The group now has a core team of members and has launched a resident survey to gather views on the proposal. FPG also runs an active Facebook page and has recently launched a new website.
For residents who do not use social media or the internet, updates will also be shared through The Farnie, helping ensure that the wider community can stay informed and have an opportunity to contribute.
Public Meetings and Community Engagement
FPG held two well-attended public meetings on 24 August, giving residents an opportunity to raise concerns and ask questions about the proposed development.
The group subsequently submitted a formal response to the Wain Estates public consultation, which closed on 28 August. FPG also presented residents’ concerns to Farnsfield Parish Council on 8 September, with many residents attending.
A further residents-only meeting is planned to provide an opportunity for open discussion outside the formal Parish Council meeting environment. . Details will be announced when confirmed.
FPG also intends to invite the local MP to a public meeting to hear residents’ views directly.
Survey Feedback
Almost 300 responses have been received through the FPG resident survey.
When asked, “Is there anything that you think would make this housing plan work for you?”, a clear majority selected No.
Among those who selected Yes or Maybe, responses generally indicated that significant changes would be needed, particularly in relation to housing density, infrastructure, traffic and local services. Only a small number of respondents reported having no concerns about the proposal.
Residents who have sent their views directly to the Parish Council but have not yet completed the FPG survey are encouraged to do so, or to forward their correspondence to FPG. This will help the group build as comprehensive a picture of residents’ views as possible. The Parish Council is unable to share individual correspondence because of data protection requirements.
Research and Work So Far
FPG has been carrying out research into a range of issues potentially affected by the development, including:
• infrastructure capacity;
• traffic and road safety;
• drainage and flooding;
• local services; and
• planning policy.
The group has also been engaging with local businesses, submitting Freedom of Information requests to relevant organisations, and encouraging residents to make their views known to their MP.
FPG continues to monitor responses and information as they become available, with the aim of building an evidence-based picture of the potential impact of the development on Farnsfield.
While the eventual planning decision will not be made by the village community itself, FPG believes it is important that residents’ views are clearly represented and supported by evidence.
FPG is also seeking volunteers with experience in planning, planning law, research or working with local authorities, particularly anyone familiar with scrutinising planning applications.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed, share their views and take part in the ongoing community discussion about the proposed development.
